Former Germany international Oliver Bierhoff has given his backing to Marco Reus, following a rough week for the Borussia Dortmund winger.

This week, Reus was fined €540,000 for several driving offences dating back to 2011. It's slightly ironic that he's been advertising car and petrol companies since then, but has only been reprimanded now. He's came under scrutiny, though he has been lent a hand by legendary striker Bierhoff:

"Marco has earned the chance to show that he has drawn the right conclusions from the whole episode and learned from his mistakes," said the 46-year-old.

"When you see what is happening around players who are the subject of so much hype, from the fans, media, sponsors, then his behaviour doesn't conform the required standards. But what is important is how he deals with it.

"Players have to remember that certain values are demanded of professionals and they are role models. But then maybe we should not expect too much from people in the public eye."
