1860 Munich travelled to the Red Bull Arena to take on RB Leipzig, in both sides final match in the 'Hinrunde' before the Winter break.

For the hosts it's been an acceptable first half of the campaign. Considering the amount of money ploughed into the club, success was always on the agenda. Leipzig have been in a mixed bag of form, picking up eight points from the last fifteen available. Manager, Alexander Zorniger made three changes to the side that drew away to VfR Aalen. Out went Niklas Hoheneder, Matthias Morys as well as suspended Anthony Jung. The trio were replaced by Yussuf Poulsen, Tim Sebastian and Joshua Kimmich.

For 1860 Munich it's been a dismal 'Hinrunde'. Munich's second club have been planted in the lower echelons of the table from the get go. Numerous summer signigns have yet to prove their worth bar one, Rubin Okotie who has at times single handedly carried Die Löwen. They're also in terrible form, having only earned four from the last possible 15. As a result manager, Markus von Ahlen made two changes to the side that battled hard and picked up a respectable 1-1 draw with Kaserslautern last time out. In came Julian Weigl and Daylon Claasen for Valdet Rama and Yannick Stark.

It was a bright start for the team arguably coming as underdogs. 1860 were pressing the hosts and went close on a few occasions through Daylon Claasen and Gary Kagelmacher; but on both occasions  Die Löwen's finishing wasn't up to scratch. On a sour note, RB Leipzig defender, Tim Sebastian had to replaced with a knee injury.

However, despite the strong start for 1860 Munich it would be the hosts who would take the lead, in the 28th minute through Yussuf Poulsen. The Danish striker cut inside and unleashed a powerful effort into the top right corner of the goal. Nothing Ortega Moreno could do in the 1860 goal.

Into the second half and it was the same story as the first for 1860. They created numerous chances but on each occasion their finishing let them down. This time Korbinian Vollmann the culprit, hitting Fabio Coltorti's upright.

Further into the half and RB would have a period of pressure for themselves. Stefan Ortega Moreno in the Die Löwen goal saving well from Diego Demme and Dominik Kaiser. From this point on it was all RB Leipzig; the hosts would again go close through Demme and this time captain Daniel Frahn, but neither could do well enough to beat Ortega Moreno with their respected efforts.

However, just as the hosts had taken the lead against the run of play, 1860 Munich would do just the same and level the scores late on.  Die Löwen's top scorer, Rubin Okotie dancing between two Leipzig defenders before releasing a thunderbolt of a strike past Coltorti in the home sides goal. Nothing the Swiss stopper could do. The hosts surely regretting their missed chances now.

The result siganls the end of both sides 'Hinrunde'; RB Leipzig end the first round in 7th place on 29 points, whilst the visitors finish in 15th, with a disappointing 17 points. Zorniger will be hoping his side can push on from their solid start to life in Germany's second tier and mount a serious promotion challenge in the second half of the season. However, for Markus von Ahlen and 1860 Munich it's been one to forget quickly. The second round will need to see serious improvement, or relegation to the third tier could be on the cards.

When they return, it's a trip to Erzgebirge Aue for RB Leipzig; whereas for 1860 Munich it's a home match against FC Heidenheim.
