Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender is set to face a spell on the sidelines for a month after undergoing knee surgery.

The German international twisted his knee on Wednesday and went under the knife Friday morning.

“Borussia Dortmund’s Sven Bender twisted his knee on Wednesday,” read a statement on the club’s website.

“The midfielder was successfully operated on today [Friday].

Dortmund team doctor Markus Braunn expects a downtime of about four weeks.”

The 25-year old has made 13 appearances for Dortmund this season as Jürgen Klopp’s men entered the winter break in the relegation zone, having only won four of their 17 league matches.

Dortmund resume their Bundesliga campaign away to Bayer Leverkusen on January 31.
