Hertha Berlin are keeping a close eye on Hamburger SV midfielder Tolgay Arslan, Bild reports.

The situation surrounding the midfield at Hertha is a confused one, and according to the original article there are several reasons and conditions that might cause the Berlin club to make a bid in January.

Firstly, 22-year-old Tolga Cigerci is undergoing rehabilitation, and if he does not make the desired progress then they may be without him for a lengthy amount of time.

Secondly, Hajime Hosogai has struggled so far this season    , which has caused concern over the depth of the midfield that Hertha have.

Finally, Ronny and Stocker are yet to impress in central roles, leading to a possibility of them looking elsewhere for solutions.

Arslan, 24, fits the criteria of what they are looking for as a hard-working, box-to-box style midfielder with great vision and awareness. In truth, some Ha,burg fans may have been expecting him to develop more, but the stagnation surrounding the club is enough to cut out the momentum of any player with all due respect.

Through the Hinrunde (first half), Arslan amassed just 13 appearances for HSV in all competitions, a figure he may not be too pleased about.

Hertha BSC manager Jos Luhukay stated:

"We have days and weeks to look everything. Everything is open."

So clearly the message is look this space.
