Eintracht Frankfurt have released veteran goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand upon request.

Hildebrand, now 35, has had his contract dissolved by the Eagles, after citing that he wanted to continue to further his career.

There have been strong links to the MLS, especially Seattle Sounders, so it makes sense for both parties to go their separate ways.

Sporting director Bruno Hübner commented on the situation, "Timo would have been only been the third choice in the Rückrunde. That would not make much point in a sporting sense. That's why he asked us to indemnify him."

The former-German international had been signed after Felix Wiedwald and Kevin Trapp both picked up injuries, as Hildebrand played the remaining few games of the Hinrunde.

This leaves Frankfurt with four goalkeepers at their training camp in Abu Dhabi.  Kevin Trapp and Felix Wiedwald remaining the two most senior stoppers, with new Emil Balayev (20) joining in January. After Hildebrand left, youngster Yannick Zummack joined up with the squad.
