Rene Adler spoke out earlier in a press conference about his determination to compete with current Hamburger goalkeeper Jaroslav Drobny.
Adler has played sixty-nine for Hamburg since joining from North Rhine-Westphalian side Bayer Leverkusen in 2012, where he made 138 games in his twelve year spell at the club.
“It is a new role for me. But I'll take the fight with Jaroslav Drobny on," the 29-year-old said in training camp of the Hanseatic League in Dubai to Hamburg media representatives.
The former German national team has not featured for Die Rothosen since Matchday 2. He first sustained a tear in the joint capsule which meant he missed six games, he then suffered a hip injury in mid-November which has kept him out for a further six games.
Drobny has kept six clean sheets. With the Czechoslovakian in goal, he has helped them win four games and they’ve drew four out of fifthteen appearances for Josef Zinnbauer’s side.
