Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sebastian Kehl was ruled out for a month after a shoulder separation, it was confirmed on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old, who is set to hang up his boots at the end of the season, picked up the injury against Steaua Bucharest in a winter break friendly on Saturday.

He collided with captain Mats Hummels during the game, which was their final match at the La Manga training camp.

The acromioclavicular separation in Kehl's left shoulder means he could miss the opening five games of the Rückrunde.

It's a major blow for BVB, as their former-skipper's experience will be missed in matches against Bayer Leverkusen, FC Augsburg, SC Freiburg, Mainz and VfB Stuttgart.

It wasn't the alone injury problem to come out of the game, as Kevin Großkreutz tore ligaments in his ankle.

Though the news regarding his fitness is slightly more positive than Kehl's; the Westphalians are confident he will be fit in time to face Leverkusen on January 31st.
