Teenage talent Tin Jedvaj has joined Bayer Leverkusen on a deal until 2020, after the Bundesliga club agreed a transfer with AS Roma.

The Croatian defender had been on loan at Leverkusen for half-a-year, with a further 18 months to run on that specific deal.

Yet Roger Schmidt has been thoroughly impressed with the 19-year-old and has now made his move permanent.

“We’re very happy to secure the signing of a long-term deal with Tin Jedvaj after fair and amicable negotiations with AS Roma," beamed CEO Michael Schade.

"He has made outstanding progress over the past few months. Bayer 04 have again demonstrated the commitment to build on young and talented players in the future. He will be a key member of our squad over the coming years.”

Rudi Völler, sporting director at the club, was equally pleased: “Tin Jedvaj has great potential and has consistently shown that in the few months he’s been at Bayer 04. His versatility will certainly pay off for us. So we decided to sign Tin straight away."

Jedvaj has made 16 appearances this season for die Werkself, across the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and Champions League, scoring a twice.

The youngster had this to say about the move, “I’m happy. Bayer 04 are the best option for me and good for my development. I really want to get stuck in at Leverkusen.”
