Bayern Munich assistant coach Hermann Gerland has said that, in his opinion, teenage wonderkid Martin Ødegaard should have opted for Bavaria instead of Madrid.

The 16-year-old signed with Real Madrid earlier in the week having gone on a tour of Europe's top sides, including Bayern and Liverpool.

Now on a reported €80,000 a week, Pep Guardiola's number two has suggested that Ødegaard would have been much better off with the Bundesliga champions.

"When so much is written about a 16-year-old, he's got to be an extraordinary player," Gerland told the media.

"I briefly spoke with him and I told him that he should pick the club with the best coach. And for me, the best coach works for Bayern.

"Guardiola would have been perfect for him and knows how to deal with young players."

It won't be a massive loss to Bayern, who have a conveyor belt of talent coming out of the Säbener Straße. Not to mention the fact they're 11 points clear in the Bundesliga title race, their attention will be focused on the return to action against Wolfsburg.
