Newspapers in Cyprus reports were proved correct after they linked Valmir Nafiu with APOEL last week. Nafiu was presented as the second winter signing for APOEL on Tuesday. Later in the day, he held his first training for his new club.

He mutually terminated his contract with Hamburger SV in January 2015 before signing a four-and-a-half year contract with the dominant club APOEL Nicosia who are twenty three times Cyrpriot Championship, twenty-times Cyrpriot Cup winners and thirteen times Cypriot Super Cup winners.

Nafiu, a member of the Macedonian U21 national team, continues to be a servant for coach Thorsten Fink (named APOEL manager last month). Fink has now signed Valmir for three different clubs. Fink first brought Nafiu to Basel (from Shkendija), then took him to Hamburg and now APOEL.

Nafiu didn't show much during his time with Basel and Hamburg, but it's obvious that Fink sees something in the striker.

Nafiu made just two appearances for Hamburg playing overall twenty-nine minutes.
