1.FC Köln striker Simon Zoller has completed a loan move back to former club, 1.FC Kaiserslautern, just six months after moving to Cologne.

The Bundesliga confirmed to Express newspaper that the German would join his former side until the end of the 2.Bundesliga season.

Under contract with Köln until 2018, the 23-year old striker has failed to impress so far this season in the Bundesliga – with only one league goal for the season, the winner against Borussia Dortmund.

Köln’s Sporting Director, Jörg Schmadtke told Express: “Simon came to us Thursday after an intense conversation with a request to be loaned to Kaiserslautern. We have weighed everything up and compiled with the request. We hope that he brings a lot of confidence in his old workplace, presses the reset button and impresses here during summer.

Zoller, 23, joined Köln in summer and was seen as an ideal candidate to replace Lukas Podolski who joined Arsenal in 2012. The move came after SC Paderborn 07 completed the signing of 31-year old striker Srđan Lakić from Kaiserslautern.

Köln return to Bundesliga this weekend with an away game against Hamburger SV tomorrow afternoon.
