SC Paderborn have extended the contract of goalkeeper Lukas Kruse until 2017.

The Bundesliga first-timers have adapted better than expected this season; with little to no people giving them any chance of staying up, André Breitenreiter's side have surprised many and have twenty points, sitting in 15th place.

Kruse has been an integral part of the team, playing every single minute and keeping five clean sheets in the process.

Breitenreiter was extremely happy to have tied down one of the stalwarts at the club, "Lukas, with his experience and performances, is an important part of our team. We want to achieve our next, big goals together."

Michael Born, sporting director for the Westphalians, agreed: "Lukas Kruse is one of the top performers and role models in our team. That's why we are very excited about the contract extension."

Kruse started his career at Paderborn back in 2001, spending seven years there and then moving on to Borussia Dortmund and Augsburg before returning in 2010.

He'll be hoping to build upon a 0-0 draw against Köln, in which he made many important saves, when Paderborn take on Hannover 96 on Sunday.
