On Monday, it was officially confirmed that SpVgg Greuther Fürth had sacked Frank Kramer and brought in Mike Büskens as his successor.
After just one win in his last ten games, it was seemingly just a matter of time before Kramer was dismissed. Despite winning four points from nine in 2015, an improvement on the pre-winter form, Fürth are sitting in thirteenth; a stark contrast to last season's third place finish.
"We thank Frank for his exemplary commitment," said president Helmut Hack. "He took over at a difficult time after we were relegated and played a big role in our successful 2013/14 season, but we can't ignore the developments in recent months. We've only won once in our last ten games and haven't scored at home in our last six matches."
Former Shamrocks coach Mike Büskens has been handed the job until the end of the season. He spent nearly 20 years at FC Schalke 04 in a variety of roles, including as a player, before becoming Fürth coach in 2009.
Büskens led them to their first promotion to the Bundesliga and was sacked in February of the 2012/13 season. "We've experienced some wonderful moments together here and the club has a big place in my heart," said Büskens after his appointment. "I'll give it everything I've got to haul us out of this difficult situation and to enjoy success again together."
His first game in charge will be about as tough as they come; he faces off against 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the Fritz Walter Stadion on Friday night.
