At the Wildparkstadion, Karlsruher and RB Leipzig finished the match in a scoreless draw, in what was really a dull affair.

The first was all Karlsruher as they dominated the possession game while creating quality chances up front. Within the first six minutes of the match the hosts already had two quick corners in succession; they were easily cleared away, however. As the match reached the 12th minute, Enrico Valentini and Boubacar Barry combined down the right side of the pitch. Barry crossed the ball in the box where Rouwen Hennings was waiting, but he just missed the target.

Five minutes later, Marvin Compper and Coltori had a misunderstanding and Hennings nearly got on the end of the loose ball but the Swiss goalkeeper was able to snuff out the danger. In the 37th minute of the match, Compper got sent off for a late challenge on Yamada, denying him a goal scoring opportunity. Karlsruher were certainly the better club throughout the first 45 minutes, but were never able to find the breakthrough thanks to the good work from Fabio Coltorti to keep the tie knotted at zero.

Despite being down a man the entire second half, RB Leipzig did not play too badly at all. They tried to control possession, however, the visitors could not really muster any good goal scoring chances. Eight minutes after the hour mark, Max played a beautiful ball towards in the box, but no one could control it. The Japanese international, Yamada, whipped in another ball into the eighteen yard box, but once again, Leipzig’s defense was firm and was able to clear the danger, with eleven minutes left in the match.

That was essentially the last decent look at goal for either side as the visitors were comfortable enough trying to run down the clock to hang on to the point. This tie saw RB Leipzig jump up to sixth based on goal differential while the hosts remain in fourth.
