Meier inspires Eintracht Frankfurt to a convincing 4-0 victory over struggling Paderborn.

Eintracht Frankfurt went into the half-time break deservedly leading by two goals to nil. This season's Bundesliga top scorer Alexander Meier scored the opener AND created the second to give the Eagles a healthy advantage after 45 minutes.

Paderborn failed to create any concrete in the first-half. Meha had a half chance for Paderborn, but he was unable to keep his effort down. Stefan Kutschke tried wrong-footing Kevin Trapp at his near post but his effort nestled into the side-netting. But that was all that the visitors could do to pressure Trapp’s goal.

It was the home side who dominated the first-half. Carlos Zambrano whose header was saved by Kruse after he met Marc Stendera’s cross. After twenty-five minutes, Meier’s thunderbolt rattled the post from a free-kick. Soon after that he made amends, his diving header opening the scoring. Before, Stendera’s came close but his right-footed shot from outside the box didn’t have enough bend on it. But he made no mistake minutes later as he doubled Frankfurt lead, he linked up with goalscorer Meier and he picked out the left corner - Kruse had no chance in keeping the goal out.

The second-half was a repeat of the first, Schaaf’s side scoring an extra two goals but Paderborn did have a handful of chances to pull a goal or two back. It only took the home side ten minutes to make it 3-0 in the second 45. Takashi Inui with a defence splitting through ball and Stefan Aigner with the cheeky flick over Kruse in the Paderborn net to inflict further pain upon the Eastern North Rhine-Westphalian side.

The visitors had chances to put some pressure on Frankfurt, Meha forced Trapp into a save with his shot from distance but it was straight at the young German. He had another shot with under twenty minutes to play but his effort sailed over the bar. Lukas Rupp had an opportunity but it was blocked well by the Frankfurt defenders.

With eight minutes remaining, Inui again set up a goal. Nelson Valdez was on the end of his through ball and finished emphatically past Kruse, to make it four and complete the rout.

Full-time score: Eintracht Frankfurt 4-0 Paderborn.
