The Wolves are no longer looking towards the title, but are keen to cement second place. A place in the UEFA Champions League is their objective next season and to do achieve that, they will need to find a consistency in their performances.

Freiburg, however, need to get points on the board as soon as possible. Time is running out for them to keep them in the Bundesliga. A win would see them move out of the relegation zone.

In team news, Thursday's Europa League game against Inter Milan took its toll with  Diego Benaglio, Vieirinha and Bas Dost all doubts after picking up knocks. Naldo is certain to miss out, meanwhile, due to suspension.

For Freiburg, Marc Torrejon is back for Christian Streich after suspension and he can be expected to partner Pavel Krmas at the heart of the defence. Julian Schuster is suspended, though, so Mike Frantz should take his place.

Speaking ahead of the game, Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking said : "Freiburg have always given a good account of themselves in Wolfsburg in the past. They're a team who can really get the most out of the chances they create and they're bound to give everything this Sunday. If we're not 100 per cent focused, then it’s going to be a difficult challenge. But if we show the right attitude, then we're capable of winning."

From the visitors point of view, Christian Streich said : "They make things look so easy. If they had taken their chances better, then they could have put six or seven past Inter. They’ve just got a very good blend and they're currently the second best team in the Bundesliga, there can be no doubting that. It's reflected also in the league table."

Statistics aren't good reading for the travelling side. Wolfsburg have won 10 of their last 11 home matches in the Bundesliga and have scored at least 2 goals in 13 of their last 16 home matches in the league.

Expect to see a reaction from Hecking's side, who surprisingly lost 1-0 to Augsburg last weekend. Freiburg go in to the game after back-to-back losses and short of confidence, so inevitably face a tough task.

Possible line-ups:

Wolfsburg: Benaglio - Vieirinha, Klose, Knoche, Rodriguez - Guilavogui, Luiz Gustavo - Caligiuri, De Bruyne, Schürrle - Dost

Freiburg: Bürki - Sorg, Krmas, Torrejon, Günter - Frantz, Darida - Klaus, Mehmedi - Schmid, Philipp
