Two goals from Patrick Herrmann sealed a straight-forward three points for The Foals and keeps them comfortably in the Champions League qualification places.

Lucien Favre's side were never really in any trouble, and played a patient game and took their chances when they came.

Granit Xhaka nearly broke the deadlock after nine minutes but saw his powerful left-footed shot whistle wide of the post.

Raffael had a good chance for the hosts but blasted a shot over the bar from the edge of the box. Max Kruse had a great chance to make it 1-0 after being set up by Xhaka but hit his shot straight at the goalkeeper.

Raffael was in the action once again, just after 30 minutes gone, when he fired his shot wide. Gladbach enjoyed most of the possession but struggled to get a clear sight on goal.

Xhaka tried his luck again, from distance, but was easily caught by Ron-Robert Zieler. Herrmann was the next Gladbach player to have an effort, but once again it failed to trouble Zieler.

Gladbach finally broke the deadlock just before half time when Kruse whipped a ball out to Thorgan Hazard on the right, who then drilled a low cross into the box and Herrmann was there to tap in.

Hannover started the second half a lot brighter, with Joselu hitting a half volley just wide. Salif Sane went closest for the visitors, but his header was parried away by Yann Sommer.

Once again, Xhaka was involved, his shot was deflected just wide and prevented it from being 2-0.

Herrmann should have doubled his and the teams tally when he got on the end of a Hazard cross, but he shot straight at Zieler. Unmarked, he really should've scored.

It wasn't long before Herrmann got another chance, and this time he took it. A lovely passing move by Gladbach gave Kruse plenty of space and time on the left, who cooly played across the face of the goal and left the unmarked German midfielder with a tap in to kill the game off.

Mönchengladbach face a tough task next week when they travel to the Allianz Arena to take on leaders Bayern Munich.

The defeat means Hannover stay in 13th, four points off the relegation play-off place. Matchday 26 sees The Reds take on Borussia Dortmund.
