On Wednesday Ajax Amsterdam confirmed the signing of striker Arkadiusz Milik from Bayer Leverkusen, the forward had originally been on loan with the capital club for the 2014/15 season.

"It's not 'April fools' I can confirm I'm staying at Ajax. Today I signed a new contract until June 2019," Milik tweeted.

It is believed the 21-year-old has been purchased for a mere €2.8million, just over what Leverkusen paid when he initially arrived in January 2013.

When he joined die Werkself, he was loaned out to FC Augsburg and struggled to find the back of the net. However the move to Ajax has showcased his talents, scoring 23 goals in 33 games.

The move has raised plenty of eyebrows in German football circles, especially with Stefan Kiessling struggling for form and Josip Drmic blowing hot and cold. Milik and fellow loanee Joel Pohjanpalo have shown the goalscoring consistency that has been lacking in Leverkusen's current striking duo.

It's good news for Milik, who learned that he'd miss a few weeks with severely strained knee ligaments. That came after a strong, but fair, challenge from James McClean during Poland's 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland this week.
