Bayern Munich defender David Alaba is out for seven weeks after he suffered a knee injury in Austria’s 1-1 draw with Bosnia on Tuesday evening.
Alaba didn’t emerge for the second-half of the international friendly after defender Ermin Bicakcic fell on his left knee towards the end of the first period. He told reporters after the game: "I am in a great, great deal of pain, can barely walk, and don't really know what's happening."
Then, the club confirmed on their Twitter account earlier this morning that he had indeed suffered ligament damage and would be ruled out of action for up to seven weeks. Alaba may be able to return for Bayern's last two Bundesliga matches as well as the Champions League and DFB Pokal fnals, granted Pep Guardiola's men reach that stage in May.
The versatile full-back has already suffered a knee injury this campaign, which kept him on the sidelines between November of last year to early 2015 and despite that, he has managed to make 28 appearances for the Bavarians; scoring five goals also.
He is the latest injury blow to Bayern who are also missing winger Arjen Robben who is still missing after he tore stomach muscles in the last league game before the international break. Bayern will take on fierce rivals Borussia Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion this weekend.
