Bremen have scored nineteen goals from set pieces. They scored just fourteen from dead balls in the whole of last season. Eight of Bremen’s last twelve goals came from set pieces.

After just picking up one point from their first four games in Bremen, Mainz have won three of their last four.

This meeting between the two will be the 862nd home game for Werder Bremen and they could celebrate their 500th win. (W:499 D:206 L:156)

Team News:

Santiago Garcia remains a doubt and if he misses the visit from Mainz it ill mean that Janek Sternberg will take his place at left back.

Alejandro Galvez has returned to the first team but he will remain on the bench due to his lack of match fitness, it will mean that Sebastian Prödl and Jannik Vestergaard will retain their solid partnership at centre back.

The only notable absentee is Melvyn Lorenzen who’s currently suffering from a knee injury.

Mainz will be without three players ahead of the trip to Bremen, Todor Nedelev, Christoph Mortiz and Jonas Hofmann will miss the game.

With Hofmann out injured it could mean a start for Ja-Cheol Koo on the wing.
