At the Rhein-Neckar-Arena, the hosts lost by a scoreline of 1-4 to the hands of Borussia Mönchengladbach as the Foals provided some clincal fiinishing this evening.

Hoffenheim created a half-chance in just the third minute of the match with Roberto Firmino slipping Sven Schipplock through on goal, but the striker could not control the ball cleanly. The hosts should have had the lead after just the sixth minute, but the referee adjudged Zuber to be offside. Alvaro Dominguez nearly took the lead for Gladbach, but wastes the chance near the back post in the 16th minute of the game. A minute later, however, Hoffenheim would take the lead. Hoffenheim hight Mönchengladbach on a wonderful counter beginning with Rudy as he passed the ball towards Kevin Volland. Volland found Firmino who delivered a lovely ball towards Schipplock as he beat Yann Sommer with a fine right-footed effort.

Unfortunately for the Hoffenheim faithful, that lead would last just five minutes because Fabian Johnson would be brought down inside the area by David Abraham. Max Kruse stepped up to the spot and placed the ball perfectly behind the white line. That goal really gave the Foals confidence and their passing became much more crisp and were moving around, finding gaps in the Hoffenheim defense. In the 28th minute of the match, Granit Xhaka hit the woodwork and three minutes after that, Gladbach took the lead. Oscar Wendt streaked down the left flank, beating a couple of Hoffenheim defenders and his cross was met by the left foot of Patrick Hermann and the ball flew into the bottom right hand corner.

This really opened up the flood gates as Mönchengladbach scored another five minutes later. Kruse worked the ball down the left part of the pitch. His cross was met near the far post and Raffael slammed the ball into the right part of the goal from inside the six yard box. Hoffenheim really looked shell shocked after the third goal and were absolutely desperate for the halftime whistle to come.

The goals did not stop for the visitors as they would put one more into the back of the net six minutes after the restart. Gladbach went to work on the counter down the left flank through Max Kruse. Kruse sent the ball in towards Hermann and he was able to slide the ball into the near part of the goal, giving Lucien Favre's side the victory.
