After learning that Hanno Behrens would not be extending his contract, Darmstadt fans could have been forgiven for being a tad disappointed. However that wouldn't last for long, as they announced that captain Aytac Sulu had signed a new deal.

The Turkish-German has been in phenomenal form for Darmstadt this season and is a large part of the team that are currently third in the 2. Bundesliga. Their football fairytale continues; having came up from the 3. Liga in the most dramatic fashion last year, this season has been an even greater success.

Sulu has marshaled his team brilliantly and has been rewarded with an extension until 30th June 2018. The 29-year-old has been an almost ever-present this season, making twenty-five appearances and showing that he's one of the division's finest centre-backs.

"After initial discussions with the coaches before the winter break, for me it was already clear that I would like to stay longer at Darmstadt," added Sulu.

He continued, "The team is on the right track. I, as a captain, want this as a captain to continue, of course, and to do my part to ensure that the club continues to be successful."

Sulu finished by saying, "I feel very at home and look forward to the many other games with our fantastic fans behind us."
