The story of the night comes from Arminia Bielefeld who have beaten Bundesliga side, Borussia Mönchengladbach 5-4 on penalties to reach the DFB-Pokal semi-finals.

Bayern Munich are the other team through after beating Bundesliga rivals, Bayer Leverkusen - also needing penalties.

In the early kick-off, Manuel Junglas put Bielefeld in the lead midway through the first half before Max Kruse equalised from the spot after 32 minutes. It then needed extra time and penalties before Ibrahima Traoré missed the all-important spot kick for Mönchengladbach.

The 3.Liga side have now knocked out three Bundesliga sides in Hertha Berlin, Werder Bremen and now Mönchengladbach in order to reach the semi-finals of the DFP-Pokal - FC Energie Cottbus were last to do so in the 1996/97 season.

The result means Bielefeld are now unbeaten in 22 home games, whilst they remain six points clear in the Third Division, following their relegation last season, losing out to a 122nd minute goal.

"Leverkusen and Roger Schmidt showed what great quality they have,"

- Bayern Sporting Director, Matthias Sammer

Bayer Leverkusen kept Bayern Munich out for 120 minutes, with the two teams heading into penalties at 0-0. Manuel Neuer showed his prowess between the posts to deny Josip Drmić, before Thiago sent Bayern through.

Following their win over Bayer Leverkusen, Thomas Müller told reporters: "When it comes to penalties, it's always a combination of luck and a bit of training and technique."

Arminia Bielefeld will face a home tie against VfL Wolfsburg whilst Borussia Dortmund travel to Bayern Munich.
