Shortly after the news that captain Aytac Sulu had extended at SV Darmstadt 98, they were soon celebrating a similar feat from their boss. Dirk Schuster has signed on to June 30th 2018.

Schuster and his coaching staff all extended their deals, including assistant coach Sascha Franz and goalkeeper coach Dimo Wache.

The 47-year-old has arguably overseen the most impressive period in Darmstadt's history, as there is a very real possibility they could achieve back-to-back promotions. They have taken the 2. Bundesliga by storm and currently sit third, just a point behind second-placed 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

This came after a dramatic relegation-promotion play-off win against DSC Arminia Bielefeld last year, where they won the game in the final minute of extra-time thanks to Elton da Costa's volley.

Schuster was keen to focus on the future of his side, "We want to work together to further the development of the team. I am glad that I can continue to work for a long time in Darmstadt with my coaching staff - in a trusting, mutually fruitful environment. We want to go down that path to go together."

His team will hope to continue their push for promotion when they face 1. FC Nürnberg, knowing a win will take them ahead of Kaiserslautern, who play Fortuna Düsseldorf on Monday.
