FC Augsburg defender Abdul Rahman Baba has set his sights on helping the Bundesliga club to seal a place in the UEFA Europa League.

The 20-year old Ghana international joined Augsburg in the summer having spent two years at Greuther Fürth, and has since gone on to start 22 Bundesliga games for the Bavarian side.

“It will be a massive dream come true for the club and our fans,” Baba told AfricanFootball.

“To the players we just need to keep working towards it, but I know it’s a strong possibility. We’re in a good position to achieve that but we should not get carried away.”

Augsburg currently find themselves sixth in the Bundesliga, just one point behind Schalke 04 – whilst they face tricky away fixtures against Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

“We didn’t go into the season thinking of Europe but the desire and ambition of the club is driving us there,” Baba added.

“Some people probably expect us to focus on staying in the Bundesliga as a major aim, but when you get into the position we are in now, with eight games in front of us, wanting more is not out of place.”

Baba made his international debut for Ghana last year, and was part of Avram Grant’s side that came runners-up in the 2015 African Cup of Nations – losing on penalties to Ivory Coast.

“We were unlucky to lose to Ivory Coast in the final,” said Baba. “We have a young squad and a very experienced manager in Avram Grant.

“I hope to get another chance with the Black Stars again and continue to give my best to my country.”

A host of clubs have showed their interest in the left-back of late, which include the likes of Premier League sides, Manchester United and Chelsea.
