Borussia Mönchengladbach hammered three past Roman Weidenfeller as they ran out with the 3-1 in front of their home support on Saturday evening with their Champions League spot all but secured.

It did not take long for the hosts to score as the found the back of the net before sixty seconds had ticked off the clock. Fabian Johnson's initial shot was pushed aside by Roman Weidenfeller but the Dortmund goalkeeper left a juicy rebound that Oscar Wendt converted from the middle of the eighteen yard box. Dortmund tried to go on the initiatve after the restart but a shot from Jakub Blaszczykowski was blocked. The visitors continued to put pressure on the Gladbach's defense but they were well organized and very tough to break down.

Borussia Dortmund's first real attack came in the 15th minute of the match when Henrik Mkhitaryan made some space for himself outside the penalty box, but his shot was nowhere near the target. The next bit of action came 18 minutes later when the hosts got their second goal of the match. Patrick Hermann worked fantastically to get by a couple of Dortmund defenders who proceeded to play a square ball to Raffael. All the Brazilian had to do was put an accurate finish on his shot and he did just that. In the 43rd minute, Dortmund had a set piece opportunity go to waste after Sokratis failed to get any sort of power behind his header off of Schmelzer's free kick as Yann Sommer gathered the ball easily.

Mönchengladbach started the second half as they ended the first, by going on the counter and nearly finding the back of the net. This time it was Hermann, four minutes after the restart, who had his effort saved very well by Weidenfeller. Six minutes later, it was Max Kruse who had the chance to score but the ball fell straight into the hands of the visiting shot stopper as he could not get a lot of power behind the ball. Gladbach finally got their third goal of the match and it came seven minutes after the hour mark. Off of a corner, BVB could not clear their lines properly and the ball fell to Havard Nordvelt, putting the ball across the goal line from close range at the far post.

With less than 15 minutes remaining in the match, the hosts managed to pull one back through Ilkay Gündogan. Young Jeremy Dudziak provided a wonderful ball towards Gündogan who slotted home with a left-footed shot that fell into the bottom left hand corner.
