At the Sparkassen-Erzgebirgsstadion, a second half goal from Alexander Bieler was enough for SV Sandhausen to come away with the 0-1 victory over Erzgebirge Aue.

Sandhausen started out the match the brighter of the two clubs as they looked to pile on the pressure of Aue's back four. In the tenth minute of the match, the hosts nearly had a half-chance as Schröder was sent through behind on the right side of the pitch, the pass, however, was hit just a bit too hard and the veteran right-back could not reach the ball. Aue got their first couple of chances in the 17th minute of the match when Patrick Schönfeld's initial shot was stopped by Manuel Riemann. The play continued as the ball fell to Alibaz and sent a looping pass towards Stefan Mugosa. Mugosa's header, unfortunately, was weak and fell straight into the hands of the Sandhausen shot stopper.

The Aue striker nearly opened the scoring in the 26th minute after his header, off of a corner, went inches wide of the left post. Andrew Wooten had a header for the visitors seven minutes later but there was no power behind the shot and the ball rolled calmly into the hands of Martin Männel, the Aue goalkeeper. With four minutes to go until halftime, Solomon Okoronkwo hit a wonderful header that was destined to go into the top left hand corner of the goal, but Männel made a spectacular save to keep the match level.

It took Sandhausen just five minutes to get their first dangerous attack when Aziz Bouhaddouz let fly from about the penalty spot, however, the shot was blocked in the end. In the 63rd minute, Okonronkwo found himself in a bit of space and laced the ball from outside of the box but the ball missed the target by some margin. The visitors finally broke the deadlock in the 74th minute through substitute Alexander Bieler. Aue had trouble clearing the ball away from the danger zone and the ball fell to the substitute. Bieler made no mistake from seven yards out, placing the ball into the top left hand corner of the goal.

This result leaves Erzgebirge Aue in a relegation spot, level on points with St. Pauli and one point above the bottom of the table club, Aalen. For Sandhausen, the victory puts them into the top half of the table with 36 points.
