Hannover 96 midfielder Manuel Schmiedebach looks set to extend his six-year stay at the HDI-Arena, according to Kicker.

The player who started out at Hertha Berlin has just over a year remaining on his current deal and the club are keen to extend it even more so, due to club captain Lars Stindl's pending transfer to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Schmiedebach, a 10 time German u19 international has made 22 Bundesliga appearances this term for Hannover and has also made one appearance in the DFB Pokal.

Standing at just 5ft 7", he is primarily a defensive midfielder but can play in a more advance role or out wide too.

The news could come as a huge boost to the side who currently sit just two points away from the relegation playoff place and a further point off the automatic relegation places with six games to go. Next up for Hannover is an away tie to fourth placed Leverkusen.
