Freiburg’s Norwegian international midfielder Mats Møller Dæhli’s season may be over thanks to a fresh problem with his patellar tendon, according to the Badische Zeitung.

The youngster, who turned 20 just last month, has struggled with injuries since his move to Freiburg, and it appears now that Dæhli will probably have to wait until the beginning of next season to stake a claim for a place in the team.

In interview with the Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet, Dæhli stated “I’ve been trying to free myself of the pain, but the problem is that when training, the pain often returns quickly, so I can’t get into the rhythm of training, which has disturbed me”.

The youngster has been in and out of training recently, with the most recent reports stating that Dæhli has had to sit out of Freiburg’s most recent sessions.

Having graduated from the Manchester United academy, Dæhli has played at a senior level for both Molde of his native Norway and for English Championship club Cardiff under both clubs’ former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær in the past couple of years before making the permanent move to Breisgau in the January transfer window. He has been fast-tracked through the youth ranks right into the Norwegian national team, making his debut at the age of just eighteen in 2013.

He has, however, only made two appearances for Freiburg since his transfer – appearing in die Breisgauer’s matches with Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund early in the Rückrunde – largely down to his injury problems.

While the club haven’t stated how long they expect their young starlet to remain on the sidelines with his injury, Dagbladet are reporting that the midfielder will miss around three months thanks to this fresh blow.

The club and I will now make a judgement as to what treatment I should receive. It’s a shame, especially as I thought that I played well in those games I did play, but the main thing now is to be fresh and feel ready again, and that the team shows the form it has in the past” stated Dæhli to Dagbladet on Monday.

With a seemingly lengthly spell on the sidelines, and the prospect of the season being over for the youngster, Dæhli now has to hope that his teammates have it in them to stave off relegation to the second tier over the final six games of the season.
