Swansea are leading the race to sign Schalke full back Christian Fuchs on a free in the summer when his Veltins-Arena contract expires according to various media outlets.

The 29-year-old Austrian national team captain looks set to end his four year spell in Gelsenkirchen this summer as Garry Monk has allegedly made him his top target.

Schalke are still expected to offer the player who's been a mainstay in the side this season with a cumulative thirty appearances a deal although they may want to act fast as talks between Fuchs and Swansea have already supposedly begun.

The Royal Blues' director of football Horst Heldt was quoted as saying, "We will make a decision only at the end of the season."

Fuchs has become well known for his crossing and free kick ability during his seven year stay in Germany where he's represented VfL Bochum and Mainz before ending up where he is now with Schalke.
