After a less than successful stay at the HDi Arena, Hannover winger Jimmy Briand will leave the club in the summer on a free transfer when his contract runs out and will return to France - according to BILD.

Twenty-nine year old Briand joined Hannover last summer on a free from Lyon after four years at the Stade Gerland, but has found adapting to life in Germany hard - even more so after having to leave his wife and two children back in France.

Dirk Dufner confirmed the former French international's departure, saying: "So it is. We knew in principle for some time that Jimmy wanted to return to France. "

Briand has made 25 Bundesliga appearances and scored twice, and it is not expected he'll play any further part having already cancelled his apartment in the city.

Despite telling BILD during the winter training camp. "It's possible that I'll stay", Briand admits the boos and whistles of the crowd have really got to him and been a factor in him leaving the club.

The three main parties interested in Briand, who holds dual nationality with France and Martinique, are Nantes, Lille and St. Etienne, who are believed to have already held talks.
