Mainz travel south to Freiburg in search of an important three points as both teams try and avoid the drop zone, whilst the hosts look to keep a strong run of results going.

The recent games involving Freiburg have been praised more and more and with only one defeat in four, Christian Streich's men look to have all but gained the momentum to beat the drop down to the Zweite liga.

An Impressive point in Gelsenkirchen last week away to Schalke was made even more special when you realise a penalty save from Bürki ensured the away side didn't leave the Veltins arena empty handed.

Despite only going out narrowly to Wolfsburg in the cup Freiburg have changed their fortunes massively from becoming a certainty to go down to pulling away from the relegation dogfight.

Mainz travel south to the Schwarzwald stadion looking for their first win in three games. After narrowly beaten last week at home to Bayer Leverkusen and two respectable draws at home to Wolfsburg and away to Bremen, in which they could feel unlucky not to take three points in either game.

Martin Schmidt hasn't had the ideal start to managerial reign at the Coface arena and win only two wins in the last seven it's becoming an increasingly tough task to convince the fans and more importantly the board that he is the right man to take the club forward.

With only two points separating the sides it's inevitable that a cagey affair will be fought and neither team will want to lose ground on the other.

Freiburg who are two points off the relegation play-off spot can be sure to take confidence from recent games to ensure they do as much as possible to secure Bundesliga football next season. The visitors have been in decline in past weeks and Schmidt's men must be careful they don't fall in to the danger spots and end the season in the bottom three.

The most recent encounter between the two sides threw up an exciting 2-2 all draw. A first half goal from Costa Rican full back Junior Diáz gave Mainz the early advantage but an early second half finish from Jonathan Schmid assisted by Admir Mehmedi pulled the visitors back level.

It was then the turn of Schmid to assist Mehmedi as a lovely controlled pass broke down the Mainz defence to give the visiting fans reason to celebrate. An 88th minute equaliser from Stefan Bell was heartache for Streich's men who could feel hard done by to concede such a late sucker punch.
