Sandhausen welcomed rivals Karlsruher in the Nordbadische derby. With a big crowd anticipated it was set to provide the derby atmosphere many would want. The visitors knew a win would see them move in to the automatic promotion places for at least a day anyway.

Karlshruher started the game the favourites and in the opening minutes showed why, having numerous attempts on Riemann's goal.

Sandhausen had failed to make any real impact in the opening 15 minutes to the disappointment of coach Alois Schwartz. The away side were all over the hosts who knew a win was needed to keep the fans on side.

The visitors had a dangerous counter attack and it looked threatening with Max using his pace but he was eqaully met by Kübler who gave the referee a decision to make as the Karlsruher players protested for a penalty.

The wings were proving the most useful way forward for the hosts and until Achenbach was brought down sinistly by Torres who then set Yamada through on goal but the Japanese international failed to capitalise.

Karlsruher's pressure was beginning to show and Sandhausen settled in to a defensive mode which led to a succesion of corners and goalscoring opportunities.

As halftime came neither team had managed to open the scoring to the dissapointment of both sets of supporters who wanted the bragging rights that come with winning the derby. A nervous start seemed to shake up the hosts who made little if no impact on the game whatsoever.

A shot from the best part of thrity metres from Linsmayer tested Olrihausen for the first real time in the match.

Karlsruher came close to opening the scoring just 10 minutes after halftime but Hennings powerful header bounced directly off the crossbar and out for a goalkick to the dismay of the travelling support.

Sandhausen began to make an impact on the game but after countless long balls up the field which failed to Bouhaddouz even a sniff at goal.

Neither team really went out their way to try and open the scoring, it was becoming more and more of an old fashioned derby and tackles were going in with Peter Sippel having to get his yellow card to often for his liking.

A deflected shot minutes from time gave Orlihausen reason to panic, but the ball almost seemed to glide over the crossbar by inches to the relief of all involved with the home side.

A last ditch attempt from Sandhausen to win the game was to bring on Serbian striker Ranisav Jovanovic but the substitute failed to change the stroy of the game.

The fulltime whistle ended which turned out to be a rather dull derby with little happening and both teams leaving with a point.
