Nicklas Bendtner was dropped from Wolfsburg's squad for Sunday's draw against Schalke after showing up an hour late for the final training session before the Bundesliga clash.

"He was late for the final training session on Saturday. We have strict rules, and that resulted in him not making the squad," Wolfsburg sporting executive Klaus Allofs told kicker. "He was an hour late.

"He certainly did not do that on purpose. He simply assumed a wrong time."

The Denmark international was due to start the match but ended up being dropped from the entire squad after his poor timekeeping landed him in hot water with manager Dieter Hecking.

Allofs added that the "unnecessary" incident will "have no consequences" for Bendtner's future at the club, where he is under contract until 2017.

Manager Dieter Hecking was clearly not impressed. Talking about the situation, he said: "Nicklas was going to play from the beginning but our training session was clearly earlier than he thought."

Bendtner commented on social media, saying: "Stay strong and look forward. Mistakes can be made, but you got to deal with it and keep progressing."
