On Thursday, Karlsruher SC's René Vollath has extended his deal with the club until 2016 and will continue as an able back-up to Dirk Orlishausen.

The 25-year-old has made only two appearances for the 2. Bundesliga's fourth-placed side, who are just two points from the final automatic promotion place.

In his couple of games, Vollath impressed greatly. He kept a clean sheet against VfL Bochum, making a string of saves and earning man of the match. In the second, another in which Orlishausen was absent through injury, he helped Karlsruhe to a 1-1 draw with 1. FC Nürnberg.

Sporting director Jens Todt was pleased to have committed Vollath to 2016, "René has in his previous time here at the Wildparkstadion, despite the not always easy situation as a second choice goalkeeper, been 100% professional committed with great attitude and full commitment."

He added, "In addition, he always delivered convincing performances between the sticks when he was called upon previously."

Vollath also had his say, "I am delighted to be able to continue working with this great group. I will continue to give everything for the team and work hard to achieve our goals, but also my own personal aims."
