SC Paderborn 07 defender Michael Heinloth confirmed, on Friday morning, that he had signed a new deal with the Westphalian club.

Heinloth, who has been at the club since a move from 1. FC Nürnberg's second side in 2013, established himself as a key member of the Paderborn squad and has been rewarded with a new two-year deal. The 23-year-old was vital in their promotion to Germany's top division, featuring 25 times in the historic season.

He has featured 17 times to date for André Breitenreiter's side, who could yet defy all the odds to extend their debut season in the Bundesliga into a second term. Another three appearances would have seen his contract autmomatically extended, which was expiring this summer.

Head coach Breitenreiter added, "Michael Heinloth has matured into a valuable player in Paderborn. In human terms, he is an important element in our squad."
