FSV Frankfurt welcomed bottom side Aalen north, in a game were both teams had plenty at stake in terms of beating the drop and maintaining 2. Bundesliga status.

Frankfurt go in to the game the worse of the two teams form wise, a run which has seen them go without a win in seven has increased relegation fears and an imminent change in form is needed for Benno Möhlmann's side. Aalen make the journey north with an unbeaten run in six winning two, to keep their slim chances of survival within distance.

It was clear in the early stages that Aalen's main attacking threats were going to come from Steinhöfer and Drexler, who were set with the task of getting balls in from the wings for Quaner the lone striker to pounce on.

A handball by Oumari gave Aalen a great chance to open the scoring from a free kick in a dangerous position, however Gjasula's attempt went just wide of Klandt's goal.

Both teams were going at each other intensively with a high intensity, the majority of the possesion for the first half an hour or so was in the middle of the park as neither team could break down their opponents stErn defensive lines.

Frankfurt's first real chance of the game came with just ten minutes left until halftime. Aoudia who had been sent through on goal by a Kruska pass took a shot towards the left of Bernhardt but the Aalen keeper stood strong to prevent his side going 1-0 down.

A pacy counter attack from Aalen saw Drexler rampage down the wing before setting up Quaner who couldn't quite get on the end of a teasing cross in.

With halftime looming it was deep in to added time that Frankfurt took the lead, a Grifo free kick wasn't dealt with by Quaner who had came back from upfront to do his defensive duties. The ball was then met by Aoudia who slid in to give FSV the advantage going in to halftime.

The opening ten minutes of the second half were tainted by dirty fouls and with Aalen struggling to make any real impact on the game, it was clear they were beginning to get easily frustrated.

Aalen's best chance of the game came with just under half an hour to go, Quaner who found himself with time and space on the wing crossed in for Kruska who set up Steinhöfer for a header but his attempt missed the goal by quite some distance.

VfR found themselves level with twenty five minutes to go. Right back Ofusu-Ayeh crossing a ball in to the box which was met by Drexler who laid off to Quaner who in turn set up Steinhöfer who dually slotted home to level the proceedings. A special moment for the January recruit who had missed a great chance just minutes earlier.

Both teams seemed to settle down and try to break down by building up rather than panicking. With little under ten minutes left Aalen had a shot from Quaner cleared off the line by Huber who made it back at just the right moment to prevent his side going 2-1 down.

Peter Sippel blew his whistle for fulltime and neither team looked pleased with just a point in such a massive game at the bottom of the table. FSV move up one place to 12th whilst Aalen move one place up to 16th meaning they currently are in place for a relegation play-off.
