Bayern Munich's 31-year-old Dutch winger Arjen Robben has been ruled out of action for the rest of the 2014-15 season with a muscle tear in his left calf muscle, following his brief return from an abdominal injury during Bayern's 2-1 DFB-Pokal defeat to rivals Borussia Dortmund.

He was introduced in the second-half in place of Spanish creative midfielder Thiago Alcantara after 68 minutes, but was forced off with another injury problem just fifteen minutes later. He was taken off in place of Mario Gotze, and scans on Wednesday morning showed the damage sustained will rule him out of action for the remainder of the season.

He scored 19 goals, eight assists and created 62 chances in all competitions before his recent injury, and he stated he was "physically disabled" as he was unable to play or feature at all over the past month or so, before another injury problem means his campaign, which included a semi-final date with La Liga giants Barcelona, is over. As if the two-legged tie was a hard task to begin with, it just got slightly harder for Bayern.
