Valdet Rama's late effort meant that 1860 Munich were able to climb out of the relegation zone, as the Albanian's goal brought them a step closer to securing their 2. Bundeslga status.

FSV Frankfurt's unbeaten run was a distant memory and they had slipped further down the table than first expected. Still relatively safe, they knew that a few more points would mathematically in the division. Timm Golley and Tom Beugelsdijk were dropped for Odise Roshi and Hanno Balitsch, as the latter pair returned from injured.

1860 were in deep trouble, especially after results went against them and landed them in one of the division's closest relegation battles to date. Dominik Stahl (injured), Ilie Sanchez and Valdet Rama (both benched) were replaced by Julian Weigl, Maximilian Wittek and Stephan Hain, with Torsten Fröhling aiming for three points.

Wittek's inclusion was almost fully justified within five minutes. A fantastic thirty-yard free-kick arrowed towards the top corner, though the departing Patrick Klandt was equal to his effort and clawed away the danger.

Balitsch also had a good chance on his return to the starting eleven but, like his opposite number, he couldn't convert. Another Vincenzo Grifo delivery gave FSV another opportunity to head themselves into the lead, only for Mohamed Aoudia to miss the target.

A very valid penalty appeal was waved away by Christian Dingert, much to the surprise of the home faithful. Christopher Schindler was fully committed to the ball, but his foot was high and caught Aoudia at the top of his back; something that Benno Möhlmann was bemused at. The veteran coach, managing in his 500th 2. Bundesliga game, was forced into a change and had to replace the injured Mario Engels just before half-time.

The first-half provided little in the way of clear-cut chances, though Zlatko Dedic forced a great save from Manuel Riemann at the beginning of the second. The soon-to-be-Bochum stopper came out with speed to deny Dedic's effort.

Joan Oumari almost scored a spectacular own goal, which would have been a contender for goal of the season had it went in. A misjudged thirty-yard back-pass caught out Klandt, though he was able to recover just in time to clear it off the line.

The game was edging toward a bore draw, though Rama had other ideas. He broke away in the final few minutes with Daniel Adlung's inch-perfect pass, leaving the hosts' defence for dead and lifting the ball past Klandt to send the strong travelling support wild.

1860 held on to move two points clear of relegation, though FSV Frankfurt will be disappointed that they couldn't mathematically secure their status for next season.
