Wolfsburg came into the Benteler Arena on Sunday afternoon and walked away with all three points as they defeated Paderborn comfortably by a final score of 1-3 with goals from Tim Klose and Bas Dost.

Out of nowhere, Paderborn got the first chance of the match in the 11th minute. The ball was whipped in excellently inside the box from the right and fell to Moritz Stopplekamp's missed header was volleyed by Lukas Rupp from six yards out and it somehow missed the target. But it would be Wolfsburg who would strike first five minutes later off of a set piece opportunity. The Swiss left-back Ricardo Rodriguez sent in a beautiful ball towards the middle of the area were fellow compatriot Tim Klose met the ball with his head and redircted the cross with precision past Paderborn's Kruse.

Paderborn did not quit as they continued to put pressure on Wolfsburg defense thanks to a couple of set piece opportunites from corners and deep free kicks as well. From just about 18 yards away, Mario Vrančić hit a good free kick that just sailed over the top of the cross bar. The second goal came four minutes after that Paderborn chance through the work of Ivan Perišić and the finish of Bas Dost. Perišić made a diagonal run inside the box, towards the byline and Daniel Caligiuri fed him well. The Croatian floated the ball back towards the middle where Dost had an open goal to fire at from two yards away and did not miss.

Wolfsburg's third and final goal came in the 82nd minute as Dost would finish off his brace. Perišić was involved in the action once more as he set up the initial shot for Maximilian Arnold. Arnold did manage to get a good shot away but it was saved very well by the Paderborn goal keeper. However, the rebound fell to where Dost was and the Dutch striker made absolutely no mistake with his finish.

Rupp had a go from outside of the eighteen yard box but failed to hit the target with four minutes remaining. It was not a bad effort for beind down 0-3 because he just had to try to find the back of the net with time running out. The club did manage to pull one back but it was a mere consolation goal as there were just seconds left. A Gustavo header was poor and it fell straight to Rupp, who was Paderborn's biggest threat and ripped the ball into the top left hand corner.
