Gladbach are riding the crest of a wave, having gone an incredible 13 games unbeaten and having earned more points, 36, than anybody in the Rückrunde.

By comparision, only Bayern have got remotely close with 31, and the Foals are just one win away from being in the Champions League group stage without the dreaded qualifying round.

But don’t necessarily put this down as an away banker: Werder have history over Gladbach. 28 years of it in fact, as the Foals have not tasted victory at the Weserstadion since 1987.

However, another potential storyline comes from Werder’s top scorer, Franco Di Santo; after Gladbach’s Max Kruse agreed a move away from Borussia-Park, rumours suggest the Argentine is in line to replace him in Lucien Favre’s side.

Last time out:

Werder were soundly beaten in the reverse fixture, with Favre’s Gladbach running wild over the Bundesliga’s bottom side. Kruse hit the opener from the spot after Philipp Bargfrede had fouled Ibrahima Traore.

Oscar Wendt made it 2-0, but Werder looked to have found their way back into the game through a trademark Zlatko Junuzovic freekick.

But Christopher Kramer and Branimir Hrgota made it a comprehensive scoreline, made worse by Luca Caldirola’s red card for two bookable offences.

Team news:

Werder's Luca Caldirola (foot) and Felix Kroos (rib) could return after injury, but Werder are still without Clemens Fritz (calf), Santiago Garcia and Alejandro Galvez (both knee).

Gladbach have no such problems, with Alvaro Dominguez returning to training after his back injuries.

What they said:

Viktor Skrypnyk spoke about the possibility of qualifying for the Europa League by pointing out that the teams around them also fighting for the same places have difficult games too, saying: “We'll do our best tomorrow.

“Our Europa League rivals also have difficult games. We'll wait and see what happens.”

Skrypnyk also spoke highly about Werder’s opponents, who sit just two points off second place, saying: “They (Borussia) have been the best team in the league over the past few weeks. They play great football.”

In his press conference, Lucien Favre recognised the enormity of the task for him and his team, saying: “We haven't won there in the time I've been coach here.

“We really need to pick up points in Bremen again, but it'll be very difficult.

Bremen have had an excellent second half of the season and are still fighting for a place in the Europa League. We'll need to be ready from the off on Saturday.”

Werder’s Felix Kroos however hoped that the Weserstadion faithful would prove influential against Gladbach, saying "It's our last home game of the season and we'll have the fans behind us, so that'll give us an advantage.

“We'll do our best to give our fans three points as a present - they've more than earned it."
