A last minute winner by Nils Petersen was able to give Freiburg a shock win against the recently crowned champions Bayern Munich with a 2-1 victory at home as Freiburg still look to stay in the Bundesliga after getting out of the relegation zone.

Frieburg haven't won a competitive game against Bayern in almost 20 years, with a 3-1 home victory in March 1996 as their last success as they looked to break that streak today. The match started with a chance with the home side to break the deadlock as Schmid had a chance on goal, only for Benatia to slide in and able to snuff out the chance. Following a goal disallowed from the Bavarians just two minutes later, Bayern took the lead in the 13th minute from Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Following a magnificent run from Mitchell Weiser, the winger was able to give an amazing ball to the captain as he was able to finish it past Burki to give the lead to the recently crowned champions. Bayern would have double their lead 14 minutes later as Jerome Boateng's header from the corner went past Burki, only for the shotstopper being there in time to save it straightly though.

The home side later equalized in the 33th minute from Admir Mehmedi. Felix Klaus was able to release the ball to the striker, before he punted a low effort into the corner past Manuel Neuer to level the score.

In the second half, Bayern looked for a winner from various opportunities. Xabi Alonso's early free kick in the half went over the crossbar, while another one went off the deflection by Burki. In the 70th minute, Schweinsteiger had a chance where he was able to curl in from the angle, however it was thuded off the top of the frame of the goal on what another big chance the away side had in this match.

While looking to maintain possession, Bayern were attacking but only Bürki were able to two great chances, first from Mario Gotze, where his shot went wide while he was trying to save his effort and from Thiago's free kick, only which Bürki stuck out a hand to tip it wide off the goal.

The winner did come however in the 89th minute from former Bayern player and substitute Nils Petersen. Just 3 minutes after coming in, Karim Guede curled a shot past two defenders, and it landed perfectly for Petersen at the back post, in which the striker wrong-footed Manuel Neuer to give the home side a well-deserved victory to secure themselves out of the relegation zone at the moment. They now travel to Hannover to look confirm safety with a victory next week in the last match for them in the season.

Meanwhile, the recently crowned champions lose their fourth match in five games, which included elimination from the Champions League by Barcelona and now will face Mainz 05 in their last match in the league at home as they look for victory next week.
