In what was a rather drab and dreary game on paper, goals from Michael Liendl and Jimmy Hoffer were the highlights in a resolute 2-0 win for Fortuna Düsseldorf.

In what was a rather quiet beginning, neither side were able to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and take charge. The game meandered along at a pleasant pace with neither 'keeper in any danger, though Erwin Hoffer was about to change that.

Some excellent passing saw Julian Schauerte break free on the right-hand side. He set himself and put in a fantastic delivery towards the veteran Austrian forward, who was brave and headed past the onrushing Manuel Riemann. The attention quickly turned to Riemann, who picked up a knock to the head, but he was able to continue after some treatment.

Fortuna almost doubled their lead through Bruno Soares, whose opportunism took him into the right place to meet a deflection from Tim Kister. He flung himself at the ball, only for Riemann to somehow push his header out of the bottom corner and away to safety.

The second-half was a similar story, as both teams struggled to create a clear-cut chance. Charliston Benschop almost caught out Riemann, who was taking his time with a clearance, though he went in hard on the goalkeeper and picked up a silly booking.

Lars Unnertsall was a busy man, too. The former-Schalke stopper constantly had to deal with a bombardment of crosses, as Sandhausen struggled for ideas to break down their visitors. The chance of the game fell to Marco Thiede, but he somehow managed to screw wide a volley from just four yards out.

The game was summed up perfectly in the final minute, when Hoffer missed an open net. Thankfully for Fortuna, Michael Liendl was able to add a second soon after, showing his team-mate how to score a tap-in. The result didn't really affect either side, though Sandhausen still haven't assured their safety in the division after their points deduction.
