According to German sports magazine 'kicker', SC Paderborn 07 have secured the services of highly-sought after shot-stopper Daniel Heuer Fernandes from VfL Osnabrück.

The 22-year-old has been a star performer for Maik Walpurgis' side this season, earning plaudits from across Germany for his performances. Such is the standard of Heuer Fernandes, he is currently the sixth best-rated player in the entire 3. Liga by kicker.

He is expected to sign a two-year deal for the Benteler-Arena outfit, joining Lukas Kruse and Alexander Nübel at the club. The Portuguese-German's move does seem to spell the end for back-up custodian Daniel Lück, whose contract is up at the end of the season. Already a youth international, he has been capped five times for Portugal's under-21 side.

Heuer Fernandes is likely to start off at second choice, though he certainly has shown that he has the talent and promise to go on and establish himself as a first-choice goalkeeper at a high level. Before joining Osnabrück, he was rarely used by fellow Westphalian sides VfL Bochum and Borussia Dortmund.

Their new stopper will hope that he'll be joining a Bundesliga club this summer. However, a gutting defeat to FC Schalke 04 leaves them needing a win against VfB Stuttgart to have any chance of staying up.
