Benno Möhlmann and FSV Frankfurt have reportedly gone their separate ways, following a 1-3 defeat to 1. FC Union Berlin on Sunday afternoon.

Möhlmann had recently taken charge of his 500th managerial game a week beforehand, though a tenth winless game proved to be the final straw. The sacking does come at a strange time, however.

FSV currently occupy the relegation play-off place in the 2. Bundesliga, and to sack a manager with one game to go is a strange decision to say the least.

The club have scheduled a press conference for Monday afternoon and are expected to announced 42-year-old Tomas Oral as his replacement. At the minute, Oral will be in charge of the team for a promotion/relegation play-off against Holstein Kiel.

Sporting director Uwe Stöver has been sacked, also. Along with the timing, it comes as a surprise that the club are in this position. Möhlmann's men were seven games unbeaten at the beginning of the Rückrunde, although results soon deteriorated and they'll be fighting against Fortuna Düsseldorf to save their 2. Bundesliga status.
