DSC Arminia Bielefeld have extended the contract of centre-back Stephan Slager until 2018.

The 25-year-old has been a virtual ever-present for Arminia this season, as they look to claim the 3. Liga title this weekend. Having joined from 1. FC Köln in 2012 and has been a key member of the first team squad.

"Stephan Salger has evolved over the past three seasons to be an integral part of our team," said sporting director Samir Arabi.

"With his style of play, he has taken, not least in the current season, an important role and was a key factor in the promotion battle," he continued. "Therefore, I am very pleased that he will play three more years for Arminia."

Slager himself added, "I hope with my performance I can continue to contribute to the success of the club. What we have done this season, makes me proud and confident at the same time for the tasks ahead."
