In what was a crazy encounter at the ESPRIT arena, a late goal from Zlatko Dedic was enough to secure FSV Frankfurt's place in the second tier next season.

The first chance fell the way of Frankfurt, who started with a real urgency in their play. Vincenzo Grifo was denied by a flying save from Michael Rensing, parrying away his curling drive from twenty yards out. That bright start was capitalised upon, as the visitors finally made their chances pay - something they failed to do in previous weeks.

Grifo was once again involved, playing through Edmond Kapllani. It was by no means an easy finish, in fact it was quite spectacular. Kapllani lifted the over Rensing and Heinrich Schmidtgal just failed to clear the ball off the line, giving Tomas Oral the perfect start.

Fortuna hit back immediately and were behind for just two minutes. Erwin Hoffer's hold up play was brilliant and allowed him to set the ball for Lukas Schmitz, he strode onto the ball and put it past Patrick Klandt with the aid of a deflection.

Things soon turned on the visitors even further and they took advantage of a half cleared corner. Ihlas Bebou was on hand to finish it off, spinning his marker and sliding the ball under Klandt from close range.

Yet, once again, another goal was to follow. Dustin Bomheuer was the guilty man, as he hauled down Zlatko Dedic in the area. Kapllani stepped up and had his penalty brilliantly saved, only for the rebound to be headed past him by the Albanian forward - bringing his side level once again.

Chances continued to fall either way, though the majority went to the hosts. Hoffer and Bebou both had great chances to add to the score-line, though neither could and the sides went in level at the break.

There was a moment of concern for Hoffer at the start of the second half when he collided with Klandt. He took a fist to the face as his header flew over, but was thankfully able to continue after some treatment.

A slick Fortuna move almost handed another goal but Klandt was equal to the task, denying substitute Joel Pohjanpalo at the near post.

The second-half was very uneventful until the 83rd minute, when Dedic popped up with the all important goal. The Slovenian tucked him Timm Golley's pass, giving them the three points and securing their 2. Bundesliga status.

There were emotional scenes at the end for both teams, as tears were shed at Andreas Lambertz departure from the club he'd been at for over a decade.
