Eintracht who had fallen just short of the promotion chasing pack were desperate to go out with a win whilst Union Berlin had the chance of finishing in an impressive seventh after starting the day in tenth place.

Both sides had little to play for and it had the feeling of training game more like in the earlier stages of the encounter. Union looking the most eager to open the scoring.

Union Berlin began the end of season tie against Eintracht Braunschweig on the front foot with Skrzybski's early shot testing the gloves of Marjan Petkovic.

Braunschweig began to make their mark on the game with right back Benjamin Kessel testing the Berlin left back Schönheim easily whilst running directly goalbound to try and find teammate Berggreen who found himself with time and space, the resulting cross was cut out by Puncec.

Yet another attack this timecoming from Damir Kreilach brought a thunderous shot which to the relief of the helpless Petkovic went in to the side netting. Union tried to pull of a pacy counter attack courtesy of the Polter and Skrzybski partnership. After a number of return passes the deadly one was easily dealt with by Hochscheidt to the anger of Norbert Düwel on the sidelines.

Braunschweig moved forward and after a beautiful piece of skill from Omladic the resulting ball forward trickled aimlessly wide for a Berlin goalkick. Just as Markus Schmidt was about to blow his whistle for halftime Union threatened the Braunschweig defence which stood strong to disallow Polter an attempt on goal.

Union Berlin opened the scoring just four minutes in to the second half, Schönhein after closing down Kessel driving through on goal to open the scroing. The side from the capital killed the game off with thirty minutes left. Thiel with a teasing cross in to the box was met by a strecthing Polter leg to near enough seal all three points for Union.

Braunschweig's only real chance of note was a one on one, Berggreen picking up the ball from the halfway line unmarked drove through on goal only to be stopped by the heroics of Haas.
