After Huub Stevens announced he wouldn't be carrying on as head coach of VfB Stuttgart, the club acted quickly to install Alexander Zorniger as his replacement. Philipp Heise's signing was also acknowledged at the Monday afternoon press conference.

Zorniger, 47, was sacked as RB Leipzig manager in march and rumours soon spread that he would take over in Swabia at the end of the season. The reports from kicker proved to be accurate and, just two days after avoiding relegation, his appointment was confirmed by sporting director Robin Dutt.

He will sign a three-year deal at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, showing how much faith Stuttgart have in their new boss. They'll be hoping to avoid a repeat of next season, with Dutt adding: "He is, with his philosophy, the most important building block."

That wasn't the piece of good news for the Swabian faithful, as Dutt also confirmed that Philipp Heise would be joining them from 1. FC Heidenheim. The buccaneering left-back had adapted well to life in the 2. Bundesliga and is equally adept in attack as he is in defence. No details were made public about the 23-year-old's move.
