The 32-year-old Dutch international, who has also been linked with MLS outfit Sporting Kansas City, has been linked with the possibility of a return to his home country with former club Ajax.

The Dutchman's contract with current club Hamburg is set to expire at the end of the current campaign. Rumours have been going around of a possible second spell at the Amsterdam Arena, where he came through the youth team ranks before establishing himself as one of Europe's finest attacking midfielders.

Robert Geerlings the HSV captains agent, has now stated that his client has yet to choose where he wants to go next and says Ajax will not be kept waiting for a decision.

"Rafael isn't sure about his own future," the agent told Voetbal International. "Ajax have waited long enough now and we thought it was decent to inform Ajax about it.

"I expect that Ajax will switch to other options now. We can understand that."

Hamburg confirmed in March that Van der Vaart would not be offered a new deal with the German club and he has since been linked with a move to MLS, with Sporting Kansas City expressing an interest in his services.

Van der Vaart, who is nearing the end of his second spell at the Imtech Arena, made 24 Bundesliga appearances this season, netting four times in the process and racking up one assist.

HSV are set for another nervy relegation playoff this term after their 2-0 win over Schalke ensured they avoided a direct drop out of the Bundesliga for the first time in the clubs illustrious history.
